This is LiMO Plastic Surgery Clinic.

Today we'll explain in detail about "compression garment wear", a topic many people
have questions about after facelift surgery.

A Deep Plane Face-Neck Lift is not simply a surgery that pulls the skin taut - it also addresses the sagging skin and the deeper tissue layers together.

Because of this, the recovery process and post-op care are extremely important.

In particular, the compression garment used during the early recovery period plays an important role in swelling management and tissue stabilization.

Q. Why wear a compression garment after a Deep Plane Face-Neck Lift?

Immediately after surgery, the skin and tissue have been dissected over a wide area, so compression and fixation are needed to help the tissue settle stably into place.

At this stage, the compression garment serves the following roles:

1. Reducing bleeding and swelling

In the early period after surgery, tissue fluid and swelling tend to rise, and appropriate compression helps reduce bleeding and edema.

2. Helping skin and tissue adhere closely

Since a Deep Plane Face-Neck Lift is a surgery that repositions sagging tissue upward,
so it's important for the dissected skin and internal tissue
to naturally adhere and recover together.

The compression garment helps the tissue settle stably in place during this process.

3. Protecting the surgical site

Immediately after surgery, the tissue is in a very sensitive state, so even small stimulation or movement during daily activities can put stress on it.

The compression band also serves to reduce external stimulation and stably
protect the surgical site.

Q. How long should the compression garment be worn after a facelift?

The duration of compression garment wear can vary depending on the extent of surgery and the speed of recovery.

Generally, we guide patients according to the following standards:

Facelift performed alone: approximately 1 week

When combined with platysma muscle binding or neck lift: approximately 2 weeks

Management is important during the early recovery period.

Since the first 72 hours or so after surgery are the period most
vulnerable to bleeding and swelling, it's important to wear the compression garment
as consistently as possible during that time.

After that, wearing time may be adjusted intermittently depending on the recovery condition.

Q. Is stronger, tighter compression better?

Some people occasionally think, "Wouldn't tightening it more strongly give a better lifting effect?"

However, excessively strong compression can actually be counterproductive.

If the pressure is too strong, it can interfere with blood circulation, which may worsen swelling or delay recovery.

Therefore, what matters with the compression garment
is stable, snug contact rather than strong tightening.

If the pressure feels excessive, or if you feel a sensation of blocked circulation
or pain, it's best to loosen it slightly.

Q. Is it okay to take the compression garment off briefly?

During the first 2–3 days, it's best to keep it on as much as possible.

However, if wearing it becomes too difficult due to discomfort, it's fine to briefly remove it
for a while to allow blood circulation, then put it back on.

What matters most is maintaining it as stably as possible throughout the early recovery period, rather than repeatedly leaving it off for long periods.

Q. Precautions when wearing the compression garment after a Deep Plane Face-Neck Lift

Be careful not to press on the ears

If the ears are folded over or pressed for a long time while wearing the band,
it can cause irritation or injury to the skin around the ears.

When putting the compression garment on, it's important to position the ears correctly
so they aren't compressed.

Wear it with left-right balance

It's best to wear the garment symmetrically so that one side isn't pulled more than the other.

Cover the surgical area sufficiently

It's important for the compression garment to stably cover the face and jawline in accordance with the extent of the surgery.

The compression garment after a Deep Plane Face-Neck Lift is not simply
a supplementary item, it's part of a care process
that plays an important role in the recovery process, swelling management,
and tissue stabilization.

However, since the surgical method and recovery speed can differ from person to person,
it's also important to refer to the guidance provided by the clinic/hospital
where you had surgery for the exact wearing duration and method.

Rather than always wearing it as tightly and as long as possible, managing it stably using the correct method is what actually helps recovery.
